Super Metroid 2018 Any% Tournament

  • 105 Spillere
  • Groups (5 → 2) then Single Elimination
  • Super Metroid

Welcome to the 2018 Super Metroid Any% Tournament!

Runners of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in this tournament. Signups will close at midnight Eastern on Saturday 14th July, with the tournament officially starting on 16th July. Entrants will have 5 weeks to defeat all 4 of their opponents in their respective groups, with the top 2 participants from each group progressing to a single elimination round. Groups will be ranked by number of wins, tie breakers will be solved by their MEDIAN race time, meaning their best and worst time will be disregarded, and an average of their 2 remaining times will be used for their overall time. The single elimination stage will be seeded by racers MEDIAN race time ONLY. In order to make the group stage less predictable PARTICIPANTS WILL BE FULLY RANDOMIZED INTO GROUPS!!! This means that it will be entirely luck-based who will be in the same group as you. By signing up to this tournament you understand and agree to this.

To participate in this tournament it is required that you join the Discord server. Before the tournament starts organizers will be confirming everyone's participation in the tournament in the Discord server. The Discord server is also where you can sign up to commentate races, more information on this will be posted closer to the tournament start date. A match submission form along with a spreadsheet will also be made available closer to the start date of the tournament.

RULES

Players will use SpeedRunsLive to time and record their races. The final time listed on SRL will be the official time for the match. Races will use standard SRL rules as well as the following:

  • All players are required to stream their matches.
  • All files should start at 0:00 with the intro sequence completed so play begins on Ceres station.
  • Players may use catridge, flashcart, Super NT, SNES Classic console or an emulator (except SNES9x 1.43 or below and ZSNES, which are banned).
  • The category raced will be any% [no major glitches]. This means that anything that takes the player OOB is banned along with the spacetime beam, GT Code and underflowing ammo. If you an unsure what is considered a major glitch please ask a tournament organizer.
  • The time limit for each race will be 3 hours, however the restream may stop prematurely if one player has finished and there is another race waiting to take place. In this instance you may still continue to stream and finish the run and the final SRL time will still be used for the official race time. Any runs over 3 hours will be considered a forfeit and will be given a set 3 hour race time.

SCHEDULING

Please do your best to communicate with your scheduled opponents and get at least 1 match completed per week in order to keep the tournament on schedule. A pre-determined order will be given to complete your matches in the group stage, however you may complete the races in any order you wish, as long as you complete at least 1 match per week then you will not be pinged by an organizer. If at the end of the month any races have not taken place, both opponents will be DQ and ranked in order of the randomized seeding, unless an organizer is notified in advance as to why a match isn't able to take place. Please schedule your matches 24 hours ahead of time in order for SpeedGaming to see and schedule your matches on their own calendar. Any matches scheduled with less than 24 hours notice are unlikely to be restreamed.

RESTREAM INFO

Matches will be restreamed to one of the SpeedGaming channels when possible along with commentary. If a SpeedGaming channel is unavailable at the time your match is scheduled then it could potentially be restreamed to the SpeedRunsLive or SuperMetroidEvents channels, however this will be dependent on those channels availability and whether a restreamer can be found.

If you would like to be considered for commentary then please nickflash an organizer in Discord so they can give you the commentary role and details on how to sign up to commentate matches. Organizers reserve the right to remove people from the commentary role should their commentary be deemed inappropriate and/or offensive.

Each race that can be restreamed to SpeedGaming will get a 2 hour block on the SpeedGaming schedule. Depending on SpeedGaming's availability and how full their calendar is this may be shortened or extended, however the 3 hour match limit will still apply regardless of restream length.
